Students Testimonials

My lecturers in the theology department were all up to task! I was continually enlightened in my classes, and the coursework is relevant not only for academic scholarship but also for ministerial formation. But more than that, what makes HCU special is the respectful and warm relationship between the faculty and students. The lecturers treat students with a sense of maturity and instill these traits in many of us. I am proud that I was the first female to graduate in the department- I even received First Class honors and graduated second overall in my entire class!

Though my dream of studying theology began in my youth, I was in my 50s when I started at HCU. To study at my mature age-as a wife, mother, and busy church leader -has come with “plenty, plenty” challenges. But at every step along the way, people at HCU have helped me reach for my potential. The staff assisted me initially to pass the entrance exams, and my lecturers have continued to motivate me to press on even when the study was difficult. HCU’s splendid library and 24/7 internet was also a big benefit. I give glory to God for His numerous blessings I’ve received through HCU. And I want more to come-especially our sisters-to study theology at this wonderful place.

I am from South Sudan, and through a church sponsorship I was able to come to HCU in 2019. My mentor, the late evangelist Isaac Kpakpo Adotey, told me to study at HCU so that I could get a different lens to clearly see the world around me. However, my father did not support my decision to pursue theology and ministry. He was mad when I told him that I was going because he doubted that it would lead to a secure, good paying job. Today, I am a proud student in theology, but HCU has also given me lots of business entrepreneurship opportunities. I hold my head up because, besides learning how to be a better minister in the church, I also have learned the skills to start my own business and contribute to my community in South Sudan.

When I came to HCU to study, I was happy to learn about the annual Start-Up Business Challenge. I’ve been an entrepreneur, but financial challenges have always stood in my way. At HCU every student is given the needed care, support, and opportunity to start profitable businesses-even theology students. In 2021 I competed in the Start-Up Challenge and was awarded a cash prize of GHc 30,000 to fund my enterprise Eden Beverages. Words cannot express the joy I have in my heart to be a part of the transformative university education I am receiving at HCU!
